Carmel Apple Bars

Ingredients
Crust
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 3/4 cup flour
- 1 cup old fashioned or quick cooking oats
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
Filling
- 4 1/2 cup coarsely peeled baking apples
- 3 tbsp flour
- 1 pkg caramels (14 oz)
- 3 tbsp butter or margarine
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, cream butter, shortening, and brown sugar until fluffy.
- Add flour, oats, salt, and baking soda.
- Mix well.
- Stir in pecans.
- Set aside 2 cups.
- Press the remaining oat mixture into the bottom of an ungreased 13 X 9-inch baking pan.
- For Filling, toss apples with flour.
- Spoon over crust.
- In a saucepan, melt the caramels and butter over low heat.
- Drizzle over the apples.
