Fresh apples in the fall are an unforgettable way to bring on the season. And there’s no better way to celebrate fall than to enjoy picking apples with your loved ones. But how long is apple picking season in Illinois? While it sometimes depends on the weather, the season typically runs from late August through October, and it peaks in September. There are some early ripening varieties that ripen in mid-August, while late-ripening comes mid-November. Here’s what you should know about Tanners Orchard so you can plan for your visit.

Tanners Orchard and its Many Apples

The Tanners Orchard apple chart shows what is typically available during the fall season. Early Gold, Ginger Gold, and Royal Galas begin ripening in mid-August while Honey Crisp, McIntosh and Cortland begin to ripen in early September. From there, the majority of apples begin to ripen mid-September and into October, staying ripe into November. Over the course of our season, we’ll open and let guests pick apples until we don’t have ripe apples anymore. As you’re considering picking apples, just know we have 11,000 trees and 17 varieties of apples that you can pick and take home.

In addition to our U-Pick apples, Tanners Orchard offers a U-Pick pumpkin patch. Both are open during our Festival Days, and we host numerous events that you’ll look forward to year after year. In addition to our Festival Days, our farm market and bakery offers fresh farm goods you can take home to enjoy. We also have our Back 40 Fun Acres and more, which provides fun for the entire family.
